Russian missiles hit Odesa for the fourth consecutive night on Friday morning. Ukraine has responded by also promising to treat cargo ships heading towards Russia as carrying weapons. Tension has soared in the Black Sea since the collapse of the grain deal and the threats from Russia. “Also, during the joint exercise by naval ships and aviation they practised temporarily closing areas to navigation, and also carried out a set of measures to detain offending ships,” Russia’s ministry of defence said. Now, instead, Russia has said that it will treat all cargo ships heading to Ukraine as carrying weapons and that it will attack or intercept them.

Under the deal, Russia had inspected ships for weapons before they were allowed to dock at Ukraine’s ports to pick up grain. The Kremlin pulled out of a year-long grain deal this week that had allowed Ukraine to export to Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.
